AGUSTAWESTLAND SUPER LYNX 300 SETTING NEW STANDARDS OF MULTI-ROLE EXCELLENCE

The maritime helicopter has proved its operational effectiveness around the world since its introduction in the 1940s. Westland has played an important part in the story of the maritime helicopter, which today represents a vital cornerstone for many nations wishing to maintain and expand their maritime capabilities. This type of helicopter has immediate advantages for many naval forces as it is both flexible and able to operate from a wide range of naval platforms. Super Lynx has become one of the most versatile and capable small helicopters with over 400 aircraft sold to fourteen operators around the world. Super Lynx was specifically designed as a maritime helicopter capable of operations from small ships in adverse weather conditions.

Super Lynx is a true multi-role aircraft capable of meeting a wide range of missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, maritime patrol and utility. Fitted with an active dipping sonar, Super Lynx can detect submarines and prosecute an attack with torpedoes and depth charges, but should the threat be a surface vessel then air-to-surface missiles can be fitted rapidly. In 1998, Westland launched the Super Lynx 300 programme representing a new generation of the Lynx. Malaysia placed an order for six Super Lynx in 1999 and the Royal Thai Navy confirmed its order for two Super Lynx 300 in August 2001. The Sultanate of Oman signed an agreement in January 2002 to provide the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) with sixteen Super Lynx 300 helicopters to replace RAFO's current helicopters. Developed from the proven Super Lynx 100, Super Lynx 300 incorporates an all new integrated "glass cockpit and the more powerful CTS800-4N engines, giving excellent single and twin engine performance at maximum all up mass, even in temperatures of 50oC.

With its exceptional performance and rugged airframe, the Super Lynx 300 is ideally suited to conduct a wide range of land-orientated missions including search and rescue, troop transport, armed support and casualty evacuation. In the battlefield environment, in addition to its excellent agility, Lynx can also be fitted with a defensive aids suite, which, together with the low workload cockpit, greatly enhances survivability. The powerful CTS800 engines provide excellent hot and high performance making Super Lynx an effective utility helicopter even in the most extreme of climates. The fully integrated cockpit with a colour liquid crystal display system provides the crew with state-of-the-art technology increasing crew and mission effectiveness.
