AgustaWestland Congratulates Lifeflight of Maine for Program of the Year

AgustaWestland is honored to congratulate Lifeflight of Maine for being named Program of the Year by the Association of Air Medical Services. Over the past decade, Lifeflight has transported more than 8,500 people in their AW109 Power EMS helicopters who may not have lived without their emergency medical transport services. LifeFlight of Maine, is a statewide medical helicopter service with bases in Lewiston, at Central Maine Medical Center, and in Bangor, at Eastern Maine Medical Center with the mission to deliver rapid-response critical care services anywhere in Maine, linking patients in need with the resources of trauma centers in Maine and Boston. Operated by EraMED, the aircraft provide lifesaving rapid transport and in flight care for patients requiring transport from one hospital to another or direct from scene to trauma centers.

LifeFlight's helicopters are certified at 3000kg to provide extra mission performance capability and are staffed with 38 intensive care nurses and specially trained paramedics, bringing tertiary-level intensive care unit to each patient served, in support of local emergency providers and hospitals throughout Maine and northern New England. Lifeflight's AW109 Powers provide the necessary range and payload to meet a wide range of clinical and operational mission requirements. At the same time, the AW109s provide a cost effective solution to respond to patient care spread across a wide geographic area including mountains, woodlands, and islands. State of the art navigation for an extensive GPS approach system, fully integrated IFR operations, and night vision goggles provide the highest levels of safety. The aircraft capability provides for both rapid scene response in tight landing zones as well long distance inter-hospital transports.

Over 460 AW109 Powers have been orders for both commercial and government purposes from nearly 50 countries. The standard EMS configuration for the Power is single/dual pilot IFR, includes air conditioning and a dual litter system. The cabin layout in the EMS interior provides for full body access to the patient, with the capacity to also carry up to three medical attendants and specialized medical equipment including transport isolettes and intra-aortic balloon pumps. The AW109 Power is the fastest helicopter in its class, minimizing flight time and reducing direct operating costs.
