GKN Aerospace gains USD10m contract to supply the complete nacelle for the Bombardier 415 and CL-215T aircraft

GKN Aerospace has been contracted by Bombardier Aerospace to supply the complete nacelle for the Bombardier 415* aircraft, providing Bombardier with a single source of supply for this integrated nacelle system for the first time. This contract is worth up to USD10m over 3 years. First deliveries will take place in early 2009.

GKN Aerospace already supplies the forward structure for the nacelle for the Bombardier 415 aircraft. The Company now takes on responsibility for the entire Bombardier 415 nacelle system which includes forward and aft structures plus integrating the two structures and their associated systems.

Frank Bamford, Senior Vice President Business Development and Strategy, GKN Aerospace comments: "We have a long-established global business supplying nacelle systems. In taking on this entire work package, we will bring important process, price and performance benefits to Bombardier at a time when the market for this specialist aircraft is growing."

GKN Aerospace also supplies Bombardier with the nacelles for Q400* aircraft and the Challenger 300* aircraft, and has a strong position in the supply and support of engine nacelles for turboprop and aircraft at the lower end of the turbofan market. The Company employs advanced composite and metallic materials to suit each requirement and uses the latest manufacturing technology to create lightweight nacelles with fewer components and reduced operating costs. Nacelle system customers include Dassault, Embraer, Honeywell, Gulfstream and Rolls-Royce.

The Bombardier 415 amphibious aircraft is the backbone of firefighting missions around the globe. This high-wing, all-metal amphibian remains the only aircraft specifically designed for aerial firefighting. Able to operate at extreme temperatures and in rigorous conditions, it can deliver massive quantities of suppressant in quick response to fires - scooping up to 6,140 litres of water from a nearby water source, mixing it with a chemical foam and dropping it on a fire without having to return to base to refill its tanks. The aircraft can also be configured for specialized missions such as search and rescue, environmental protection, coastal patrol and transportation.
