AgustaWestland at DSEi 2011

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to be attending the 2011 Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEi) Exhibition and Conference and is exhibiting its extensive range of public service and military rotorcraft. It will also be featuring its advanced training capabilities with the display of an AW139 Virtual Interactive Procedures Trainer (VIPT). AgustaWestland is located on the Finmeccanica exhibition stand (S5-305) and also in the outside static area where it will have an AW159 Lynx Wildcat helicopter.

For the first time at DSEi, AgustaWestland will be exhibiting the new AW159 multi-role military helicopter now in production for the Royal Navy and British Army. The aircraft on display is the third production aircraft for the British Army. Sixty two AW159s, to be known as the Lynx Wildcat in UK military service, are now being assembled at AgustaWestland's Yeovil facility with the first aircraft set for delivery in 2012. The AW159 can be configured for a wide range of land and maritime roles and is fully marinised and designed for small ship operations.

The only new generation helicopter in its weight class, the AW139 sets new standards of performance and also has the largest cabin in its category. With a maximum cruise speed of 165 knots (306 km/h) and a maximum range in excess of 570 nm (1060 km) with auxiliary fuel the AW139 can perform a wide range of law enforcement and public service missions. The aircraft has outstanding one engine inoperative capabilities, even in the hot and high operating conditions. The advanced integrated cockpit with state-of-the-art technology minimises pilot workload allowing the crew to concentrate on mission objectives. 400 aircraft are now in service performing many military, public service and commercial roles. Orders for more than 560 units have been placed by nearly 160 customers in more than 50 countries.

The all new AW149, capable of seating up to 18 troops in its 11.6 m3 (409 ft3) cabin, is perfectly suited to perform a wide range of duties such as troop transport, battlefield and logistic operations, fire support, SAR and combat SAR, special forces operations, reconnaissance, surveillance, CASEVAC, command control & communication, external load lifting as well as VIP military transport. The AW149 is the first new generation helicopter in its class for over 30 years and features the latest technology and safety features.

AW101 has a range of over 750 nm (1300 km) and a cabin capable of carrying up to 40 troops or more than 5 tons of cargo and equipment. With the largest capacity cabin in its class, AW101 offers greater mission flexibility. With up to five under-floor fuel tanks, AW101 can perform long range missions without additional ferry fuel tanks in the cabin. Primary roles include combat SAR, casualty evacuation, troop transport, long range SAR, VIP transport and naval roles such as anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. Almost 200 AW101 helicopters have been sold to 14 customers around the world.

Highlighting AgustaWestland's training expertise will be an AW139 Virtual Interactive Procedures Trainer (VIPT) which uses advanced graphical visualisation techniques to reproduce the helicopter cockpit, enabling pilots to familiarise themselves with the controls and avionics systems to develop procedural proficiency quickly, efficiently and very cost effectively. The VIPT illustrates AgustaWestland's commitment to innovation in training, delivering highly cost effective solutions that blend live, virtual and constructive training elements to deliver maximum efficiency.

The NH90 is a twin engine, 11-ton multi-role helicopter, initially developed to meet helicopter requirements of Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands, but has now been selected by a total of 14 countries who have placed orders for 529 aircraft. The NH90 has been developed in two versions to meet the requirements of naval operations with the NFH variant and tactical transport with the TTH variant. The TTH version is primarily conceived for tactical transport of personnel (20 troops) and material. Additional applications include search and rescue, medical evacuation (12 stretchers), special operations, electronic warfare and airborne command post. The NH90 NFH has been designed for autonomous anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti surface warfare (ASuW) missions. Additional applications include vertical replenishment (VERTREP), SAR and amphibious support. The helicopter is designed for day and night/adverse weather/severe ship motion operations.

Other helicopters featured at DSEi include the GrandNew, an advanced twin-engine helicopter for public service, law enforcement and advanced training missions and the T129 attack helicopter. The T129 is a formidable, new, highly powerful and capable all-weather day and night multi-role attack helicopter which is being developed in cooperation by AgustaWestland, Aselsan and TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries) for Turkey and other export markets. It is based upon the AW129 and its predecessor, the battle-proven A129 Mangusta platform.
