AgustaWestland Awarded NIMCIS Training Contract by General Dynamics UK Limited

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, has recently been awarded a training contract by General Dynamics UK Limited, for the New Integrated Marines Communications and Information System (NIMCIS). NIMCIS is a two-year programme to equip the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (RNLMC) with the BOWMAN C4I system, which is currently being rolled out to the UK Armed Forces by General Dynamics UK Limited.

The contract requires AgustaWestland to develop and conduct "Train the Trainer courses in the Netherlands for the Royal Netherlands Navy's Instructors and provide - • Bowman phase 2 Training Needs Analysis and development of a Conversion Training Plan • A Learning Management System (LMS) • A Training Infrastructure and Facilities Specification, which will identify the detailed infrastructure requirements • Classroom equipment, including Interactive Electronic Training Delivery System (IETDS), network servers, projectors and screens and all courseware and applications • Training Management and Instructors

Background NIMCIS NIMCIS will provide the RNLMC with a secure voice and data communications infrastructure capable of supporting a range of network-enabled command, control, communications, computing and intelligence systems. In addition to a standalone system capability for the Marines, a key feature of NIMCIS will be the interoperability it provides between the Netherlands and UK forces, as allies and as part of the UK/NL Amphibious Force, as well as interoperability with other allied forces.

NIMCIS replaces a variety of legacy communications systems within RNLMC. BOWMAN General Dynamics UK is currently delivering the BOWMAN system to the UK MoD. General Dynamics was awarded the (₤1.7 billion) Prime Contractor and Systems Integration contract for the BOWMAN secure, digital voice and data communications system in September 2001.

A subsequent amendment to the original contract in December 2002 included the additional provision of an information Infrastructure as part of the ComBAT, Infrastructure, and Platform BISA programme. BOWMAN/CIP, as the joint programme is known, will provide the infrastructure to support a range of network-enabled systems, over the next 30 years.

AgustaWestland was awarded the contract for delivering all Bowman training for the UK MoD by the prime contractor General Dynamics UK Limited in 2001. This was extended to include ComBAT Infrastructure and Platform (CIP) training in February 2005. The first training courses took place in April 2003 and since then over 15,000 military personnel have received Bowman and/or CIP training.
